Living with noticeable hair loss is no longer to be expected due to the incredible developments that have been made in the treatment of men’s hair loss. With the introduction of Propecia, generic name Finasteride, it is now possible to stop or slow down the progression of hair loss in the majority of men who use it.
Fifty percent of all men experience male-patterned baldness; the most common type of hair loss beginning around the age of thirty.
It generally starts as a receding hairline; a thinning of hair on the crown and temples; resulting in a U-shape pattern around the head. In some rare cases, a male may end up completely bald.
The condition is genetic; caused by an abundance of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which causes the hair follicles to become weak and eventually inactive, resulting in a lack of hair re-growth. This process can take decades, so if you have experienced rapid hair loss (under a year) or scalp irritation causing bald patches, you should seek medical advice from your GP to ensure there are no underlying thyroid conditions or other reasons for the condition.
One of the most effective treatments for general hair loss is finasteride, which prevents further hair loss and increases hair growth.
Silvway 90% of men experience visible improvements during treatment with Silvway (finasteride) (stock image) ( Silvway) (stock image) (S loops )Finasteride has been shown to results in a significant increase in male-pattern baldness, result in a reduction in hair loss and are now also recommended for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia).
Read on to learn more about finasteride and its effects.
Finasteride is a drug which works by reducing the levels of the sex hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp, which is a key factor in male-patterned hair loss.
DHT is a natural and existed many times before men were advertised as having hair growth capabilities. It is believed to be one of the few natural substances to combat hair loss and, being a selective inhibitor, Finasteride can help promote the regrowth of hair.
This effect is due to Finasteride’s ability to increase DHT levels, which can lead to a reduction in Finasteride levels in the scalp, which prevents further hair loss and increases hair growth.
Generic finasteride Finasteride is only available with a prescription from a GP. It is also suitable for use to be taken by women and is only recommended for use when required.
Finasteride works by reducing the levels of the sex hormone hormone dihydrotestosterone, a key factor in male-patterned hair loss. DHT is known to cause the testosterone system to become weak and eventually inactive, resulting in a lack of hair re-growth.
This process can take time, which should be addressed when using finasteride.
Propecia and other other hair loss products target the cause of hair loss by blocking the replication of natural DNA, thereby reducing the number and strength of DNA extension caused by age and hair loss. By blocking the replication of natural DNA, finasteride can help to reduce hair loss and is not recommended for use in women.
It is important to note, that finasteride should not be taken if you are already genetically prone to male-pattern baldness, BPH and/ or hair loss, as this can result in further hair loss and, in more serious cases, a potentially permanent increase in hair loss (with or without hair loss after a year of daily use).
One of the most commonly reported side effects of finasteride is its ability to cause rapid hair loss, with or without hair loss after years of use.
In some cases, cautions include possible decreased libido, changes in muscle mass, and reduced, or even devoid of hair growth, sexual side effects such as arousal, and changes in hearing. Long-term use of finasteride should be avoided as it can increase the risk of some common side effects including potential growth in your baby, including potential health conditions like prostate cancer and breast cancer.

Finasteride belongs to a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone that is responsible for hair loss. It can be caused by a variety of conditions, including prostate cancer, high cholesterol, diabetes, and certain types of depression. It is used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia).
Finasteride is only available in a 5mg dose. It should only be taken once a day. For best results, it is recommended to start with the lowest dose and adjust it as needed. If you experience side effects such as decreased libido or erectile dysfunction, you should discontinue the medication immediately and consult your doctor.
The recommended starting dose of Finasteride is one tablet a day, but it can be increased to two tablets per day. The dosage can be increased to three tablets per day depending on how the body responds to the medication. If you are using a higher dose, your doctor may increase the dose to find the best effective treatment for you. It is important that you follow the instructions on the packaging carefully and do not take more or less medication than prescribed.
Finasteride can be used in men who are experiencing low testosterone levels. If you are experiencing low testosterone levels, the medication may be used to help boost testosterone production.
Finasteride may cause side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and breast tenderness. These side effects are usually temporary and will diminish as your body adjusts to the medication. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should consult your doctor.
The dosage of Finasteride varies depending on the condition being treated. Your doctor will decide the right dose based on your individual needs and response to the medication. It is important that you do not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
Finasteride can be taken with or without food. However, taking it with a high-fat meal may delay its effects. It is also important to avoid taking it with other medications that can interfere with Finasteride's absorption, such as calcium- and iron-rich foods. It is important to discuss any existing medical conditions or medications you are taking with your doctor to ensure the medication is safe for you to use.
Finasteride is not suitable for women or children. Always consult your doctor before taking this medication.
Finasteride works by inhibiting the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. This enzyme is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is the hormone responsible for male pattern hair loss. DHT is responsible for causing hair loss, but is not thought to be directly responsible for prostate enlargement.
When a male has prostate cancer, DHT can cause cancerous cells to grow. Finasteride helps reduce the level of DHT by blocking the conversion of testosterone to DHT. By reducing the levels of DHT, Finasteride can slow down the progression of prostate cancer.

Hi everyone,
I recently got the following prescription for my BPH:
I'm taking 5mg (generic 5 mg) of finasteride and 5mg (generic 5mg) of minoxidil.
So I'm taking my finasteride to treat my BPH. It's been around 3 months since I started taking finasteride and I'm not getting any of the usual side effects (such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction). I would say that taking 5mg (generic 5mg) of finasteride and 5mg (generic 5mg) of minoxidil will give me the most noticeable improvement. I don't want to use finasteride in my BPH either.
Now, I've tried taking the 5mg of finasteride and it's all gone back to what I did when I first started. I'm currently on 5mg (generic 5 mg) of finasteride and minoxidil and it's the best thing I've used to get through my meds (I've been on 5mg (generic 5 mg) of finasteride for years).
I'm wondering if there is a generic option that you can take instead of 5mg (generic 5 mg) of finasteride?
I was thinking of trying 5 mg of finasteride for BPH as well.
